Comments about Shock Doctor Velocity Shockskin MMA 3-Pad Sleeveless Shirt:
I bought this to help protect a bruised rib (actually the cartilage where the lowest rib attaches to the sternum) that I received from a knee or kick during a hard sparring session. Although it feels like it will help, I haven't sparred with it yet because it is too big (I will review again when I have). My chest size of 44" is listed at the top of L and the bottom of XL so I called Shock Doctor. They advised me to go with XL since I wear XL in compression shirts. This does not fit as tight as a compression shirt but it's tighter than a fitted shirt so I should have gone with a L. The pads move around a bit so I don't believe they will stay in place when I get hit. WARNING: even with the XL, this shirt is extremely difficult to remove without help. The pads prevent turning it inside out like you would with a compression shirt. The material on the back is a tightly woven mesh that will rip if you reach over your head and pull up on the back (the material tends to stick to your skin). I had to have my wife pull up on the upper pads while I wiggled my way out with great difficulty. However, I think the protection is worth it. I have also re-injured the rib in grappling when passing the guard and being blocked by a knee or when my opponent attempts a scissor sweep so I think this will help there as well.
Feels too large
