How to Train BJJ at Home
We live at a fast pace. We're usually short on time. That makes it hard to get to the gym. Sometimes classes are early in the evening, making the post-work commute tense as you try to speed across town to get there on time. Sometimes it just doesn't work.
Or maybe finances keep you from getting to the gym. In this economy, not everyone has the money to spend on monthly gym fees. Those things are deterrents, but you can still train. Here's how to train BJJ at home.
It's easy to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at home, even if you don't have a partner. If you have a garage, basement or live in a warm climate, home BJJ mats are a perfect solution to not having a place to roll.
The mats come in two different sizes: 5x10 or 4x6. Measure the space you want to use for training and buy accordingly. What's great about Hypnotik Mats is that they are made from the exact same material used to create competition mats. They're also easy to set-up and break down, so they can be moved if need be. If you can't get an exact match on sizes, the mats can also be cut on the back.
If you are already training BJJ, you may know what you want to work on. But if you are a BJJ newbie, than a great way to get started is with the Gracie Jiu Jitsu Combatives Bundle.
The Gracie Jiu Jitsu Combatives Bundle comes with a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Gracie University Shirt, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Original Black Fight Shorts and the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Combatives DVD Package, which contains 13 instructional DVDs.
The Gracie Combatives series was created specifically for people with no previous experience, as well as those that don't have either the access or resources to learn at a BJJ school. After completing the course, you can actually test for your Gracie Blue Belt online via video submission or in-person at the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Torrance, CA. You've got to love technology.
Using grappling dummies is a great way to sharpen up techniques and work on different submissions. They come in a many different sizes, usually from 70 to 120 pounds. It's the next best thing to having a training partner, and you can take your time and really hone your technique.
You can also train in other disciplines with the help of DVDs. The Gracie Jiu Jitsu Bullyproof Package is great for children, and the Gracie Jiu Jitsu Women Empowered Package features self-defense lessons specifically tailored for women.
