Are you sure the size is based off the measurement around the calf because I also read its based on the measurement of your shin bone from the top of your ankle to the bottom of your knee wich is why fairtex's size chart uses your height for sizing
The size of the surface area covering the shin knee to ankle does not differ greatly between sizes. However, the curvature of the actual shin pad around the front of the sin reaching toward the calf differs greatly. This is why we advise the calf measurement opposed to the shin length. You want to make sure that the pad is hugging your shin and not sitting on top of them. If you have a shin guard that is too small it can possibly slide around when you are using them because it will not have the proper alignment on your shin, thus leaving you open to injury.

My calves measure over 16" what size is best for me?

The shin guard sizing is based from the measurement around the calf, at the largest place. If the measurement is under 14 inches, the manufacturers recommend size s/m or reg. If the measurement is 14 to 15 inches, the manufacturers recommend size l/xl. If the measurement is over 15 inches, the manufacturers recommend size 2xl.
