I've been doing MMA for almost a year now. I prefer compression shorts, problem with those is that A) you get wedgie's and B) the cup keeps slipping and needs to be consistently readjusted.
Ok HERE ARE THE PROS: it's a jock strap and compression short minus the wedgie. STAY'S IN PLACE. It's adjustable. provides "support". the athletic cup moves with you and protects STRONG<I applied the baseball bat test to myself, status: A+. Excellent for MMA doesn't slip when grappling, when kicking, or any form of twisting. cool design (simple and stylish). material is BREATHABLE. Feels true to size. Oh bonus! most athletic cups only protect DIRECT STRIKES to the groin area. this cup also protects the "family jewels" very well from the bottom, left, right, top, every angle; hence accidental knee strikes.
now the CONS:
velcro material holding cup in place isn't stretchy, so if it's straped too tight it may tend to come off during live rolls or sparring, so tighten it enough to allow movement so it gives a bit. disassembling and reassembling and separation of cup from short is challenging...but hey it assures that the cup ain't going no where!
it's not really a con but i have to address this: it is way too pricey<BUT WORTH IT!. and i wish that they sold the shorts separately so i have extras.
you have to get both cup and shorts...they don't work well individually but together GREAT. on price if you think about it compression shorts, a decent pair, will cost you a gewd 39.99 and a functional athletic cup is around 15 bucks so the price is just about right...please sell the shorts separately!

The shorts secure the cup very well in place. I really like the strap design, apart from the fact that the straps makes it VERY difficult to remove/replace the cup for washing, but that can be put up with. My main gripe and what is causing me to look elsewhere for my next groin protector shorts is that the rubber sides of the cup that press against the inside of your legs and are supposed to flex for comfort, are EXTREMELY rigid, causing the cup to press back into your groin area very painfully. The rubber sides are simply just too rigid, they should take a note from shock doctor in what material to use. I would give the product more stars, but 2 is the most I can say considering that the comfort of a cup is REALLY important. and this is simply painful to use.

Comments about Jaco Guardian Compression Short and Athletic Cup (without Pads):
This cup is great. the mobility and range of motion are the best of any cup system out there right now. I have two sets and wash the whole unit together rather than take it apart after every use. I am 6'2" 185lbs with a 32 inch waist and I bought this in size medium and it fits perfectly.

Comments about Jaco Guardian Compression Short and Athletic Cup (without Pads):
I'm 5'8 150lbs and went with the medium size jaco guardian with cup support and it's snug and extremely comfortable. I always found cup protection to be uncomfortable and over rated until during a bjj match i was kicked really hard in the crotch and had to have surgery. So protection has become a "Must" for me and i have been through many different shorts and cup combinations. My "Crotch Protection Search" is finally over. As soon as i slid these on i knew it was just what i have been looking for! I'm ordering a back up pair to have a rotation .

Best Groin Protector ever. Had the shock doc before, but this one is way better. Specially when you do high kicks, no movement, you don't feel the guard.

Comments about Jaco Guardian Compression Short and Athletic Cup (without Pads):
I also own the shock doctors version but no longer use it. The Cup on this version is attached to the shorts with a series of straps secured by velcro. The cup couldnt possibly be held into place any better. I've only been using this version for 3 weeks and am concerned that perhaps the velcro may not hold up over time. I WILL be buying more of these, even if they only last 3 months and become less secure.
